Johnson, Glenn H., age 92, December 11, 2014 of Grosse Ile. He is survived by his children Richard (Phyllis) Johnson and Doreen Johnson; his grandchildren Jimmy Johnson, Lynn Fox-Love, Lana Machnik and Rita Fox-Glance; 4 great grandchildren and his brother Huntley Johnson. Preceded in death by his brother Warren Johnson. A gathering and Life Celebration are being planned for a later date at the Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. Contributions in memory of Glenn's life may be made to the March of Dimes To view video tribute honoring Glenn's life, click the multimedia tab above The Following is taken from the plaque presented to Glenn upon his selection to the Michigan Amatuer Sports Hall of Fame: In the 69 year history of the Michigan Amateur Golf Championship, only two golfers have one the title three consecutive years. Glenn Johnson achieved that feat in 1956. Then he ran his string of match play victories to 23 before loosing in the 1957 semi-finals. He won again in 1958 and 1961 for a total of five titles. He holds the record of qualifying for the state championship for 23 straight years, 1950-1972. In the last 28 years he has qualified 25 times, won 64 matches, lost 20. Since 1953, his has been on the Golf Association of Michigan honor roll 20 times. In 1947 his was the first mate on the Spookie, Port Huron to Mackinac sailing race winner. He didn't take up golf seriously until 1948. a four time qualifier for the U.S. Open, Glenn has been Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club Champion 13 times in 18 years and made four holes-in-one. Born in Cleveland October 30, 1922, he has resided on Grosse Ile since 1927 where he was a nine-letter at Grosse Ile High. in 1945 he was the first string quarterback at Michigan State after three years as a pilot of B-24's and instructor at Langley Field, Virginia.
