Kirk Strange Obituary

Heaven has gained a favorite son as we mourn the sudden death of Glenn "Kirk" Strange on November 10, 2025. He was born in Lexington, KY on February 8, 1968, moved to Nashville, TN in 1978, and to the Atlanta GA area (including Mableton and Dacula) shortly after he and his wife, Letitia Lankford Strange, married in 1991. While in Mableton, the most important event of his life occurred. He and his wife had a baby girl, Kirk's best pal, named Hope Lankford Strange (Adcock). Her time as a nursing student at Toccoa Falls College, inspired he and his wife to relocate. He has made Toccoa GA his home since 2020.

It's difficult to put all that Kirk was into words. He wasn't just the life of the party; he WAS the party! No one loved to laugh like him and his quick wit and sense of fun quickly made him a favorite in any group. There was nothing Kirk loved more than the Lord and his family. He knew what he believed and stood firmly in his convictions. What he loved, he loved and pursued passionately. He was the king of Halloween, had an incredibly deep knowledge of history, and loved TRUE rock n roll and metal. He was a gifted and creative artist in many mediums winning awards for some of his work. He made Christmas magical with his spirit, his baking, and his train sets. He was an avid collector, an impressive aquarist, and lover of dogs. Despite his many years in Tennessee and Georgia, he loved Kentucky, receiving an appointment as a Kentucky Colonel. And no one was more vocal during a University of Kentucky football or basketball game (although he made an exception to cheer for Mercer football, as his son-in-law, Edward "Riley" Adcock, was Mercer's center for 5 years). He served and led in the 28th Georgia reenactment unit helping organize participation in reenactments notably with the 123rd reenactment unit in New York, and a battlefield near and dear to his heart in Mill Springs KY. He was a member of the Dacula Masonic Lodge 433 and the Lavonia Masonic Lodge 241, cherishing his time with fellow Masons in service to God and his community. He loved his country and demonstrated his patriotism by passing along his reverence for Veterans and the United States Constitution to the many classes of students he taught. He loved the outdoors, camping, and fishing and held a reverence for nature that he replicated in his home. He had a strong back and calloused hands. He was a man's man and took pride in his handiwork and caring for his family. He believed in independence and self-reliance, modeling that to his treasured daughter Hope and to his many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He was baptized at Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington KY, a member of Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville, TN, and a member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Mableton, GA. While living in Dacula he was an active member of North Metro Baptist Church in Lawrenceville GA. He was an active participant in church Bible groups and Sunday School classes, but he did a lot of his work outside of the church building. He even organized a group that met for breakfast at 6 am on Fridays at Chick-fil-A to share and reflect on God's goodness. They called it Chicken Church.

He attended The Art Institute of Atlanta, earned a BA in History from Kennesaw State University, and an MA in History from Piedmont University, dedicating this knowledge to teaching. His knowledge of history was unsurpassed, and he was a favorite with students, faculty, and the school communities at Stephens County Middle School in Toccoa GA and Phoenix High School in Lawrenceville GA. He taught history and citizenship enthusiastically. Although these were the academic subjects he taught, his focus was teaching responsibility, respect, and self-worth. He exemplified this through his dedication as a soccer coach and by organizing a memorable trip to Washington, D.C., giving a group of students-many of whom had never before left their home state-the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. He created citizens and community members who loved their country and contributed to the good of society.

Kirk is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Clay Strange, and Blaine Neikirk Strange. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Letitia (Tish) Lankford Strange, and the pride and joy of his life, his best pal Hope Strange Adcock, and her husband, his son-in-law, Edward "Riley" Adcock. He is also survived by two grieving sisters Susan Strange Roe (Steve Roe) and Kathryn Strange Forrest (Steve Forrest) and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and many, many lifelong friends. His much-loved dogs, Pip, Rizzo, and newest puppy, Ace are already searching for their most precious friend. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. All left behind, though, can take comfort in the reassurance of joining him again in everlasting life.

Yesterday

Kirk taught several Phoenix Staff members the Haka dance, which we performed for our students to inspire them to take an aggressive attitude towards passing their graduation tests. Great memories.

Kirk and I had the privilege of working side by side for nearly 18 years teaching social studies at Phoenix High. Over those years, we shared countless stories and laughs, and supported each other through life´s challenges. Kirk´s passion for history and deep love for his family were always evident in everything he did.

One of my favorite memories is the trip we took together to the U.S. Marine Corps´ Parris Island, where we experienced (an extremely modified version of) a recruit´s training-before retreating each evening to the comforts of our hotel.

I loved Kirk deeply and will miss him more than words can say.

I worked with Kirk at Phoenix High School, where he was known for his genuine passion for inspiring young people, a wicked sense of humor in the break room, and a healthy skepticism at faculty meetings.

Kirk and I were colleagues at Phoenix High. I always enjoyed talking to Kirk and hearing his funny stories about all sorts of events. He will be missed.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Kirk at Phoenix High School. I started in the throws of the pandemic and it was difficult to get to know people as we were all isolating at the time. Kirk's room was near mine and he checked in often and we enjoyed sharing stories. What I remember the most was his love and dedication to his wife and daughter. He was a good man and I am so very sorry for your loss. We will miss him.
