Glenna Carter Obituary

GLENNA RUTH CARTER, age 92, of Berea, KY, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2025. She was born in Huntington, WV, in 1933 to the late Harold and Agnes Wilkes Carter.
In addition to her parents, Glenna was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Eugene Carter, who passed away in 2015; her son, David Matthew "Matt" Carter; her first husband, Gene Scites, who died in the Korean Conflict; her sister, Mary Carter Allen; and her brothers, Jack and Ron Carter.
She is survived by her son, Mark Stephen Carter and his wife, Silmara, of Berea, KY, and her daughter, Amy Carter Shehee and her husband, David, of Charlotte, NC. She was a loving grandmother to three grandchildren: Melissa Carter and Joshua "Josh" Carter, both of Berea, and Luke Shehee of Chapel Hill, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Peg Cook of Huntington, WV.
Glenna leaves behind not only her cherished family but also her dear neighbors and devoted caregivers, whose kindness, friendship, and support she deeply appreciated in her later years.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Glenna was devoted to her family and to serving others. She worked as a telephone operator for AT&T, became a full-time homemaker while raising her children, and later served as a paraeducator in the Cabell County School System.
She was a longtime member of Berea Baptist Church and the Pearl Sunday School class. Throughout her life, she joyfully served in various church ministries, including the nursery, library, and shut-in ministry.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Ridgelawn Cemetery, 5547 W. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, WV.

Amy & Mark, I was so sad to read your mom's obituary on line yesterday evening. If I would have seen it earlier in the day, I definitely would have come to her service. Your mother was always a kind and caring person. In addition, her endless love for her family was her most important priority, As you move forward, may her precious memories bring a lasting peace and comfort to you amd your families.
