Glenna Phelps Obituary

Glenna June Phelps, 92, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed peacefully from this life at 8:17 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2025, at Compass Park, Franklin.

Mrs. Phelps was born June 12, 1933 in Monticello, Kentucky, the daughter of Marcus W. Correll and Minnie M. (Denney) Correll. On August 26, 1950, Glenna married Leonard O. Phelps; with 60 loving years of marriage, he preceded her in death June 24, 2010.

Mrs. Phelps worked at Columbus Process as a sample maker for 16 1/2 years. She was a bookkeeper for A. B. C. Trucking Firm, and also a retired employee of Arvin Industries where

she was a material controller for 25 years.

Glenna was a Columbus High School graduate and went to Ivy Tech College to study computer programing. She was a former member of Seventh Street Church of God where she was a Sunday School teacher, and secretary for several years. Glenna is a present member of the Revival Tabernacle Church and served as church secretary.

Glenna and her husband were members of The Chosen Vessels, a Christian singing group who performed in churches, nursing homes, the state fair, and several festivals for over 15 years. Glenna was a member of Arvin's Quarter Century Club and Silver Oaks. Most notably, Glenna performed the roles of former treasurer and secretary of the Ladies League at Bulldog Bowling Lanes. She also was secretary of the Senior's Tuesday League and Thursday's Ladies Matinee at Columbus Bowling Lanes.

Mrs. Phelps interests were reading her Bible, going to church, being with her family,

singing, bowling, golfing, and working in her rose garden. Glenna especially treasured the rose bushes that her son (Jerry) had gifted her throughout his life.

Survivors include twin grandchildren, Jeremy Marcus Phelps of Columbus and Jennifer Leigh (Phelps) Whitchurch, of Manteo, North Carolina; and three great-grandchildren, Peyton Whitchurch, Kyler Whitchurch, and Alexis Whitchurch all of North Carolina.

Mrs. Phelps was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus and Minnie Correll; her husband,

Leonard O. Phelps, their only child, Jerry L. Phelps; brothers, Elmo Correll, Chauncey Correll, and Carl G. Correll; and all aunts and uncles.

A special thanks from Glenna's next of kin is noted as follows. Gratitude toward all the care staff of Columbus Regional Hospital, the CRH Emergency Department team, and especially, the nurses of Two Tower ICU stepdown unit. Also, a most appreciated recognition of the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation, Compass Park skilled nursing facility: management, dietary, security, and patient direct care staff.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Section 75 at the Garland Brook Cemetery; Reverend Eli Johnson will officiate.
