Gloria, born on March 2, 1946, in Austin, Texas, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and joy that touched everyone she met.

She moved to Houston shortly after getting married where she raised her family. Eventually becoming a hairdresser and business owner. She was the embodiment of strength, independence and she built her life with grit and grace, always lifting others.

Her laugh-full-bodied and contagious-was the soundtrack to countless family gatherings, garage sale adventures, and impromptu karaoke nights where she'd belt out country tunes like she was born on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

Gloria was everyone's mom, whether you were kin or simply lucky enough to cross her path. She had a heart that gave without hesitation, a kitchen that never closed, and a spirit that made you feel seen, heard, and fed-both literally and emotionally. Her turquoise jewelry sparkled almost as brightly as her generosity.

She was the favorite aunt, the neighborhood nurturer, and the casino queen with a lucky streak. She found joy in the simple things: a good bargain, a good song, and good company. And when life threw its hardest challenge her way, Gloria beat breast cancer with the same fierce determination she brought to everything she did.

Her love for country music and dancing was matched only by her love for people. Gloria didn't just care-she cared deeply. She didn't just help-she helped unconditionally. She didn't just live-she lived fully.

Gloria Cortez Ates leaves behind a family who adored her, friends who cherished her, and a community that will forever feel her absence. But her spirit lives on in every laugh shared, every meal cooked with love, and every song sung with heart.

She was, and always will be, unforgettable.
