Gloria Schneider Braughton, (nee Simonsen), 75, of
Sykesville, Maryland, passed away quietly on November 7, 2025, at Carroll Hospital Center,
Westminster, Maryland with her husband, Mel, by her side. Born on November 11, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, Gloria grew up in Dundalk with a close family. After high school, she initially began a career in banking, then went on to become a homemaker and mother to 2 boys she protected, nurtured and loved without measure. She reestablished her career in banking and worked for many years at different banks in Carroll County, Maryland. In the 1990's she became the Office Administrator at The William Schneider Co., Inc / Gaither Manor Apartments in
Sykesville, Maryland where she continued to contribute her expertise until her passing. She was also a long-time member of Gaither United Methodist Church in
Sykesville, Maryland. Gloria was well known for her self-taught and extraordinary talents in quilting and needlework and for her generosity in making gifts for family, friends and even strangers. She was a strong-willed woman who was not hesitant to express her opinion, but was always ready to provide empathy and support for those needed it. She was long on the hunt for the perfect shrimp and red pepper bisque recipe. Gloria was predeceased by her father and mother, Walter and Anna Simonson, (nee Paradise), her brothers Wayne and Walt, and her sister, Gladys Schekels. She is survived by her husband, Charles "Mel" Schneider, her son, Kevin Braughton, his wife Liz, their children Holly and Alec, and her son Jeff Braughton. She is also survived by her step family including step-son, David Schneider, his wife Jennifer, their child Reagan, her step-daughter, Shelley Illmensee, her husband Tom, their children Nathan and Iris, her step-daughter, Marie Russell, her husband Anthony, her step-daughter Jennifer Read, and her children Seth, Lucius, Charlie and Jackson. She is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews. All will miss her dearly. Services will be held at a later date yet to be determined.
