Gloria Gregory Eure Cartwright, 91, of 197 Gibson Road, Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Born on June 27, 1934, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Gloria was the daughter of the late John Napoleon Gregory and Eva Mae Cartwright Gregory. A proud high school graduate, Gloria lived a life marked by service, compassion, and deep devotion to her family and community.
Gloria faithfully served others throughout her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Albemarle Hospital, The Brian Center, and Britthaven Nursing Homes. Her gentle spirit and caring hands brought comfort to countless patients and families during their most vulnerable moments. In addition to her work in healthcare, she was co-owner of Eure’s Family Seafood Restaurant, where she welcomed friends and neighbors with warmth, hospitality, and home-style goodness that made everyone feel like family.
A woman deeply involved in her community, Gloria was an active member of Berea Church of Christ and often attended Towne South Church of Christ. She was a dedicated member of the Perquimans Chamber of Commerce, where she served as receptionist, the Perquimans County Home Demonstration Club, the Forrestburg Ruritan Club, the Eastern NC Areawide Ladies Fellowship, and she generously volunteered with Climbing High Ministries. She believed in staying active, serving others, and lifting those around her with encouragement and kindness.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Belvin Raymond Eure, Sr. and Milton Elliott Cartwright; her sisters, Martha Probst and Hattie Gregory; and her brothers, John Gregory, Daniel Gregory, and Walter Gregory.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Belvin “Ray” Eure, Jr. and wife, Karla, and Gay Murray and friend, Vonney Schultz. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Bryan Eure (Natalie), Kristen Steele (Chad), Kara Nichols (Chad), Kathryn Russell (Adam), Katelyn David (Josh), David Murray (Jessica), and Chris Murray (Rebecca). Gloria was further blessed with 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind numerous special nieces, nephews, and cousins who held a treasured place in her heart, as well as a bonus daughter, Darlene Holland and husband, Bill.
Gloria’s life was one of faith, family, and faithful service. She will be remembered for her steady strength, her generous heart, and the love she poured into every role she held — as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, businesswoman, and friend.
