Gloria Chatmon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chamberland Funerals & Cremations on Feb. 13, 2026.
Gloria Lee (Denny) Chatmon was born on February 20, 1937, in Rockford, Illinois, to Clayborn Denny and Birtrue Denny (McNeal). She lived a life rooted in faith, family, creativity, and compassion for others.

In 1954, Gloria married the love of her life, T.C. Chatmon. Together, they built a family and raised three children: Gwendola Chatman, Timothy Chatmon, and Cecilia Chatmon. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended loved ones.

Throughout her life, Gloria worked in many different fields, including as an elevator operator, retail worker, machine operator, and caretaker at a children's home. After retiring, she lovingly devoted herself full-time to caring for her own mother, demonstrating her lifelong calling to serve others.

Gloria had a deep love for the arts and a special passion for gospel music. She sang in a gospel group known as the Quindeleers and was a faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Rockford, Illinois, before later moving to Texas. In her spare time, she enjoyed writing romantic stories and expressing her creativity through storytelling. She was also an avid member of the Carver Senior Center in Garland, Texas, where she found joy in community and fellowship.

Those left to cherish lasting memories include her children: Gwendola Chatman, Timothy Chatmon, and Cecilia Chatmon; her daughter-in-love, Dawn Neville-Chatmon; her grandchildren: Joseph Chatman, Timothy Chatmon, Jr., Tamara Chatman, Diamond Kirk (Shaneka), and Jade Brown; her sisters, with whom she shared a particularly close bond with and spoke with by phone every chance she could: Doris Williams, Mattie Thompson (Earmon), and Wanda Polk (Jesse); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will forever hold treasured memories of Gloria in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, T.C. Chatmon; her parents, Clayborn and Birtrue Denny; and her brothers Clayborn "Sunny" Denny, Jr., Ronald Denny, and Robert "Little Bit" Denny.

Gloria will be remembered for her loving spirit, her devotion to family, her strong faith, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in all who knew her.
