Sister Gloria Johnson-Jones, born on August 13, 1949, in Oran, Missouri, and raised in Decatur II. Gloria was the daughter of Rev. Oliver Johnson and Naomi Clark, who instilled in her a strong faith and commitment to service. She dedicated 27 years to Ameritech before retiring to pursue her passion for career development, earning licenses as a Nail Technician and Cosmetologist. She was the cherished wife of Deacon John T. Jones Sr. and a proud mother of five.
Gloria confessed a hope in Christ at the age of eleven. She was a devoted servant of God and a beloved member of the Greater Mt. Olive M.B. Church, under the leadership of her father, Pastor Oliver Johnson. A founding member of her church, Gloria faithfully served in various roles and continued to serve at Greater Mt. Olive M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Byron Hansbro as Announcing Clerk, Adult Sunday School teacher for the women, and Instructor for the Deaconess Ministry. She also served as the Bible Teacher for the OWDBA Women's Auxiliary. In 2012, Gloria earned her Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies.
She is survived by her husband, John T. Jones Sr.; her children, Roger (Tonya) Carter, Dionne (Usamah) Carter, Kim (Glen) Powell, and Yolanda Jones; grandson, Deontay Stewart; stepmother, Earnestine Johnson; brother, Marion Johnson; and goddaughter, Angela Wilcox. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and the Greater Mt. Olive M.B. Church family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; stepson, John T. Jones Jr.; and a host of relatives.
