Gloria Resendez Lopez, 81, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in
Corpus Christi, Texas. She is survived by her sister, Guadalupe Moncivais; her daughter, Alexandra Lopez; her grandchildren, Crystal & David Gaytan, Tiffany Vega, Alexandra Deleon, and Angel Deleon; great-grandchildren Robert S., Antoinett Q., Kayla G., Diamond G., David G. Jr., Haley V., Ricky R., Aliza R., Savanna R., and Bayla B.; great-great grandchildren, Dean W., Arabella R., and Lucky B.; and many other beloved friends and family members.
Born on February 27, 1944, in Laredo, Texas, Gloria was the daughter of Maria Elvira Resendez Lopez and Basilio Lopez and the second youngest of nine siblings. She was a humble, hardworking woman who, from a young age, had many jobs working alongside her sisters. From clerking at El Rio Family Center Grocery to peeling and cleaning shrimp at the local fishery, she was never afraid to break a sweat or get dirty. Most notably, she devoted more than three decades to caring for children and young adults with special needs as a state-appointed house parent. Even after retiring, her heart for service led her back for six additional years. Her patience, resilience, and kindness left a lasting impact on countless families.
Outside of her work, Gloria lived with a joyful and full spirit. She loved music – especially Mariachi – and in her younger years performed as both a solo vocalist and with the Lupita & George Banda. It was rare to see her without a song on her lips or a dance in her step; she carried music with her everywhere, lifting the spirits of everyone around her. Gloria also felt most at peace outdoors, tending to her garden and nurturing her beloved flowers. With hands often dirt-stained, she found beauty in simplicity and joy in watching things grow.
A woman of spirit, humor, and warmth, Gloria embraced each day with a lightness that made life brighter for everyone she loved. She taught her family that happiness could be found in the simplest moments - a cold beer, good music, a long bus ride, and time spent together. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience that will continue to bloom in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.
Her memory will be cherished forever.
