Gloria Luce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Giberson Funeral Home - Madison on Jan. 1, 2026.
Gloria (Peggy) J. Folsom Brewer Luce

1944–2015

Gloria (Peggy) J. Folsom Brewer Luce, 81 of Embden, passed away on December 15 at her home with her daughter at her side.

She was born on November 27, 1944 in Newport to Leo and Ethel Folsom.

She graduated from MCI in Pittsfield in 1962. She then attended Skowhegan Business School. After her schooling she worked for local shoe shops and businesses as a secretary and bookkeeper. She retired as a bookkeeper in Madison.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Maynard Brewer, then her second husband, Timothy Luce. Also a brother Steven Folsom.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Brewer of Embden and grandson, Blake McGowan of Brewer. Also, a brother Brian Folsom and his wife Laurie of Parkman, and a sister Annette Watrous and her partner Craig Clifford of Haynesville. And nieces and nephews.

Gloria was known for crocheting thousands of winter hats for local schools, organizations, and a local church. Her hats through missions have reached children around the world! And in 2021 she was awarded The Maine Spirit of America Foundation Award for her donations of crocheted hats for her "commendable community service in giving back to the community." However, her biggest joy was receiving the pictures and cards sent to her by the students wearing the hats that she made. Year after year she displayed them.

Her passions included her flowers, gardening, birds and mowing her lawn. She also enjoyed her computer with reading, playing card games, Magic Puzzles and a friendly daily Wordle competition with a friend.

She loved dog sitting for special neighbors and their wonderful dogs Cody and Allie.

Special thanks to Ericka from Northern Light Hospice for her kindness and support.

There will be a private committal late spring.

Donations in her memory can be sent to:
