Gloria S. (Roop) Cook, born on August 3, 1954, in Portland, Indiana, and a beloved member of the Marion community, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, with her husband Mark by her side. Gloria embodied a loving personality, characterized by her loyalty and frankness; she always called it like she saw it. Her warmth and kindness touched the hearts of many who had the privilege of knowing her.
A dedicated intake and receptionist with the Indiana Department of Child Services, Gloria was a beacon of support for both her colleagues and the families she assisted. She invested herself wholeheartedly in her work, nurturing children and their caregivers through her compassionate approach.
Outside of her professional life, Gloria's vibrant spirit shone through her many hobbies and interests. An avid crafter, she took great joy in overseeing the Holliday Bazar at AmVets Post 5, where she shared her creative talents. Her passion for crafting was also visible in her creation of Baby Buns dolls, which she sold at Hallmark, bringing smiles to the faces of those who cherished her handmade artistry. Gloria was an active member of the Red Hat Society and the AmVets Post 5 Auxiliary, where she forged lifelong friendships and shared countless laughs.
She held a special place in her heart for her family, particularly her cherished grandchildren—Christian, Ashleigh, Bailee, and William—as well as her six great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the comfort of her beloved dog, Sophie, who stood faithfully by her side.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Roop, her mother, Catherine J. (Smiley) Burkhart, her sister, Karen Ann Stanton, and her dear dog, Wiley. Her absence is profoundly felt by her brothers, Michael Stanton and Thomas Roop; her sister, Cathy Wolfgang; her husband, Mark Cook; her son, Lyle Vinson; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her memory forward in their hearts.
A visitation will be held on July 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, both taking place at the Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home in Marion, Indiana.
In honoring Gloria's life, let us remember the laughter she brought, the warmth she instilled, and the love she shared so freely. She will be deeply missed but her legacy will live on through the lives she touched.
