Gloria Jeanne Simon

Gloria Jeanne Simon (nee McGee), 69, of Elyria, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born October 6, 1945 in Caribou, ME and had been an Elyria resident for the past 45 years moving from Columbus. Gloria worked as a sales associate for various hotels. She also worked for the Nord Center in customer service and was a spokesperson for mental health. She enjoyed volunteering at the Rape Crisis Center and for NAMI of Lorain County. She also enjoyed traveling, Nascar, making gift baskets, spending time with her family, taking care of her home, and spending time with her dogs, Sam and Bailey. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, John Bernard Simon of Elyria; daughters, Christine (Jeremy) Ansel of Rapid City, SD; Shelly Dongarra of Elyria; step-daughters, Annette Marie Collins of Las Vegas, NV, Constance Michelle (Jon) Dees of Sanford, NC, Catherine Suzanne Sobieski of Elyria, Mary Ann (Mark) Teleha of Lorain, and Christine Elizabeth Simon of Elyria; step-son, John Christopher of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson, sister, Cindy Gnagy of Amherst; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Dolores (nee Lewin) McGee. The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Prayers will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015 at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange St., Vermilion. Fr. Ronald Brickner will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions to Lorain County Mental Health, 1173 North Ridge Rd.
