Obituary for Gloria Sullivan Tibbetts

Gloria Jean Sullivan Tibbetts, 90, of Gorham went home to live with her heavenly father on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Ledgewood Manor, in Windham, surrounded by her family. Gloria was born to Howard E. Sullivan Sr. and Hazel Fayle Sullivan on August 24, 1935, in Portland, Maine and was raised in South Portland, graduating from South Portland High school in 1953. She was the oldest and quietest of nine children of a boisterous blended family. She spent her early adult years in Randolph, Ma. and Delran, NJ, with her former husband, later returning to her home state of Maine with her son, Kim. She soon started her long career at UNUM.

Gloria married Leon Tibbetts May 26th 1973, embracing, Leon's children and his life of carpentry. She took on his world of renovating their 1800's era colonial home in Gorham. She treasured her newly acquired family and their adventures together, becoming a loving Mimi, when grandchildren arrived. After retirement she and Leon traveled and collected antiques for their beautiful home. Gloria was a talented and welcoming hostess, cook, gardener and floral arranger. She was a perfectionist and a woman of many talents.

Sadly, Gloria lost her only son Kim Dorr, in 2015 and her husband, Leon in 2022. She is also pre-deceased by her parents, Hazel MacLennan and Howard Sullivan Sr., brothers Howard Sullivan Jr., Richard Sullivan, and Timothy Sullivan. She is survived by siblings Donna Walters, Michael Sullivan, Catherine Underwood and husband, Jack, Brian Sullivan, and John Sullivan, children Leon Jr. and wife Karen, Cindy Tibbetts, Allison Gamble, Tim Devine and wife Sonja, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gloria had a deep faith in the Lord and was an active churchgoer until declining health prohibited her from attending in person. She looked forward to and appreciated visits from her church friends and from her pastor.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Ledgewood Manor and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care. A service will be held at Standish Baptist Church, 181 Ossipee Trail West, Standish, Maine on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 1:30 PM. Burial will be at a later time.
