Gloria Vargas Obituary

Gloria Zuniga Vargas, age 76, of Carrizo Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025.

Gloria was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on July 11, 1949, to Julia Sanchez Zuniga and Jacinto Zuniga Gloria, preceded in death by her beloved husband, Salvador Ortiz Vargas; her sisters Juanita Costilla, Consuelo Garcia; and her brothers Mario Zuniga and Pedro Zuniga.

She is survived by her daughters Linda Barrientez (Jesse Barrientez), Eleanor Vargas, Esmeralda Little (Jonathan Little); her sons Salvador Vargas, Jr. (Barbara Vargas), Ricardo Vargas (Jade Young), and Mario Vargas. Gloria also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous siblings.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all who supported Gloria during this time, to include: Carolina Criel, Rosa Martinez, Patricia Boling, Rachel Briones, Nicole Briones, Adelita Medina, Sylvia Barrera, Marishca Valenzuela, Anna Belia Lopez, Rosa Rubalcava, Lisa Jaime, Nora and Ralph Flores, the Vargas neighbors in Carrizo Hill, and Carlos Sanchez. Thank you for your support and for seeing her beyond her illness.

Gloria reunited with her husband after 20 years apart. On behalf of her children, she is deeply missed. Even though we keep wishing we had more time with her, we are thankful she is finally home and at peace. She was so funny with her attitude, jokes, and she always set a high standard in how she ran her household, her home cooked meals, and how she presented herself every day. She and our father always placed a roof over our heads, made sure we had food in our bellies, and raised us the only way they knew how. May our parents be together forever now. Her final months she would talk about seeing our dad so we know he was with her on her final journey.

May she rest in everlasting peace.

The family will honor Gloria on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM . A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM.

Visitation will continue on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Carrizo Springs. Cremation services will be announced at a later date.
