Gloria Gene Womack

Gloria Gene Balthazar-Womack was born August 8, 1949, in Alexandria, Louisiana to Effie Gene Balthazar.

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Gene Womack, affectionately known to many as "Grandma Glo." She departed this life on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love.

Gloria was a devoted Catholic, who attended Saint Martin De Porres Catholic Church. She was a loving mother to her four (4) biological children, whom she cherished deeply. Her capacity for love knew no boundaries-she embraced her husband's children as her own, never distinguishing between "mine" and "theirs," only "ours." When people would say she was a stepmother Glo's very saying was "you don't see no steps on me". To her, family was defined not by blood, but by love, and she lived that belief every day.

Her house was a place of comfort and belonging. She opened her doors and her heart to neighborhood children, offering guidance, laughter, and unconditional support. It was through this boundless love that she became known to so many as "Grandma Glo."

"Glo" had a crazy sense of humor, and she didn't mind telling anyone what she thought of them. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether through her warm smile, her wise words, or her steady presence, she created a sense of belonging wherever she went.

Gloria worked faithfully as a laundry supervisor at a major hotel, where she was known for her strong work ethic and caring spirit. She brought that same dedication and warmth into her home and community. Glo never had a dirty dish in her house, and she always had vacuum lines on her carpet every night before she went to bed.

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leon Womack Sr., her mother Effie Balthazar, her sister Dubran James Balthazar, and her grandson Norman Allen Sr., whom she now joins in eternal peace.

Gloria is survived by her children, daughters: Marie Balthazar, Samantha (Earnest) Ellis, LaJay Womack, Lennia Cooper, and La Jeune (James) Gover. sons: Leon Womack Jr. and Leon Christopher Womack Sr.. sisters: Marilyn (Jeareld) Edwards, and Arletha James. Seventeen (17) grandchildren: Tosaya, Kristina, Airiana, Rhonda, LaNique, Earnest, Phillip, Erik, Jaidyn, Jayla, Vanna, Don'Nika, KaNisha, Leon Christopher, Justice, Asia, and Jace, twenty-six(26) great grandchildren, Godsons: Jerome Taite, and Kwasi Pryor, best friend: Marcella Pryor-Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her community. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the family she built.
