Goldie May Long

Because of Christ's death and resurrection, Jesus' followers live with the sure and certain hope for eternal life. It is from the comfort of this promise, that we announce the death of Major Goldie M. (O'Neil) Long on March 7, 2024. Goldie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family at the age of 73.
Goldie's life was a testament to her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. From a young age, she dedicated herself to The Salvation Army's mission, embodying its values of service and compassion. After a fulfilling career as the office administrator at Stone Presbyterian Church, Goldie and her husband, Ed, answered the call to full time ministry, serving as pastors for The Salvation Army for 16 years until their retirement in 2013.
Throughout her life, Goldie was a shining example of love and devotion. She cherished her family, her church, and her community. Goldie is survived by her loving husband of over 55 years, Edward Long; her four daughters, Linda Long Fonner (Roger), Allison Long Saseen (Mark), Pamela Long Henderson (Todd), and Stephanie Long Mockabee (Bill); her nine grandchildren, Jourdan Saseen Nolte (Braxton), Payton Mockabee Davidson (Takoda), Sarah Fonner, William Mockabee, Cole Saseen, Christian Mockabee, and Lily, Violet, and Reid Henderson; and her great-granddaughter, Maeve Nolte. She is also survived by her three brothers, Bill (Ruth), Richard, and Bob White, as well as many nieces and nephews. Goldie is preceded in death by her parents, Homer White and Violet O'Neil and two sisters, Marilyn Long and Dianne White.
Goldie's life touched countless hearts, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Though we mourn her passing, we find solace in the knowledge that she now rests in the arms of her Savior. As Jesus declared in the gospel of John, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." Goldie embraced this promise with unwavering faith, and we trust in God's plan for her eternal peace.
A visitation will be held at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Rd. Wheeling, WV on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 10am till the time of service at 11am at The Salvation Army, 3333 Eoff St. Wheeling, WV. Followed by interment at Parkview Memorial Gardens.
