Gordon Bacon Obituary
Gordon Lee Bacon, age 84, has passed away at Shalom Park Nurisng home in Aurora, Colorado where he resided for six years. He suffered from dementia. He was born in Hastings, Nebraska. His father passed away at age 53 and Gordon became the "man of the family" at 14. All of his other siblings except his little sister Gloria were out of the home. He began working in the local grocery store after school to help his mother out financially. He was very proud to be able to buy her a living room and bedroom set at age 14.
Gordon graduated from Hastings High School in 1959. Not long after that he moved to Denver, Colorado and began his career with Safeway, starting as a produce employee, advancing to Store Manager ten years after that, and retired from Safeway after 37 years, as the Store Manager in Brighton, Colorado.
Gordon was one of nine children; the youngest until his sister Gloria came along and spoiled it all for him at age 10. His siblings were sisters Vesta Beig, Shirley Horn, Marjorie Stromer, Evonnee Kelley and Gloria Hill and brothers Raymond and Gerald (Gary) Bacon. He was married to Grace Phillips and they raised Sheila Brown, Sherryl Case, Shelly Ferris and Shane Bacon. He then married D'Ann Heflin and raised Jesse Heflin, Jamie Hodges, Elisa Starling and Kevin Bacon. He loved all eight of those children unconditionally and never distinguished children from stepchildren. All of the children and their families survive him except for grandson Zebulon Bacon. His wife of 40 years, D'Ann, a beloved brother-in-law Denny Williams, and a host of grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive him.
In addition to his work Gordon was dedicated to many civic organizations in the Brighton, Colorado area including Rotary, Safeway Employees Association, and Kiwanis. He served on the board of Platte Valley Ambulance, Almost Home for 18 years and his homeowners association. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brighton. He would do anything he could to help his community and that made him very happy and made his family extremely proud. He was loved by all of his employees (except one) and customers at Safeway and his community.
Gordon had season tickets to the Denver Broncos since 1967. He and D'Ann had a summer home at Lake McConaughey in Nebraska and traveled to many places they loved in the world. Services to be announced at a later date. Donations in his Memory would be so appreciated to Shalom Park Nursing Home 14800 East Belleview Aurora, Colorado 80015 or to the charity of your choice.
