Gordon Harvey

Gordon P. Harvey, age 84, of De Smet, SD, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society in De Smet, SD.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30 PM on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in De Smet, SD.

Graveside Memorial service will be held at a later date in Manchester Cemetery.

On December 12, 1941, Gordon Paul Harvey was born to Harry and Florence (Brugger) and raised on the family farm southeast of Manchester, SD. After graduating from De Smet High School, he attended school for mechanics and joined the National Guard. He attended Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, and served six years while working on the family farm. Gordon married Diane Smith on October 8, 1972, in De Smet, SD. The young couple would raise two sons on their farm near Manchester, SD. In 1985, Gordon began working at Lyle Signs in addition to farming until his retirement in the late 2000s.

Gordon was well-known as a tinkerer who was always ready to go fishing. He was a member of the American Legion and loved hunting jackrabbits with his brothers-in-law.

Gordon is survived by two sons: Jim Harvey of Watertown, SD, and Joe Harvey of De Smet, SD; sister, Irene Walline of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers-in-law: Ricky Smith of De Smet, SD, and Dennis (Sheila) Smith of De Smet, SD; sister-in-law, Denise (Grant) Matsunaga of San Jose, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; parents, Harry and Florence (Brugger); two brothers-in-law: David and Rodney Smith; and sisters-in-law, Cindy Smith and Janelle Smith.
