Grace Brant Obituary

Grace Ellen Harwood Brant, of Forest Hill, MD, died on May 29th, 2022, in Gordonsville, VA, at the age of 93.

Born in the Hamden neighborhood of Baltimore, MD, on June 25th, 1928, she is the daughter of Gordon Mayo Harwood and Grace Shipley Harwood. She was predeceased by her siblings, Stanley, Veola, Gordon, Mildred, Melvin, and Edward Harwood.

She was employed by Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point in Baltimore during the second World War as a sheet metal inspector and retired in 1976 after 31 years.

Grace married Jean Edwin "Jeb" Brant in May 1950 and they moved to Harford County in 1966 to a 46 acre tree farm in Forest Hill, Maryland, where they became involved in conservation.

Grace's hobbies included collecting Royal Doulton ceramic figurines, Christmas decorations, and coins. She took great pride in decorating her home and established a second home on the eastern shore in Berlin, MD. She lived there until June 2019 and then moved to Gordonsville, VA, to spend the last years of her life closer to her family.

Grace and Jeb had three children. James, pre-deceased, Kevin, and a daughter, Sandra L. Alvey.

Grace spent her retirement spoiling her three grandchildren, Douglas, Gregory, and Samantha Alvey, while they lived with her and Jeb on their 46 acre property. She watched them grow up through the passing years, sharing birthdays and holiday gatherings.
