Mary attended and graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1946. She was an active member of the Kaycee Club, Knights of Columbus, Newington Chapter #3884 for many years, and a Life Member of the Young Italian-American Auxiliary of Wethersfield. Mary worked at Aetna from 1962 until her retirement in 2003.
Mary, Ma, Nanny, as she was fondly known, will be missed and fondly remembered by her loving family, a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Cathy Hodlin of Cromwell; daughters Carleen and her husband Martin Cunningham of Glastonbury and Denise Blaede and her fiancé Steven Pace of Wethersfield; six adored grandchildren, Meghan (Artie) Oldak, Andrew (Lindsay) Hodlin, Erin Hodlin (Tyler) Adams, Danielle Gillette (Adam Squatrito), Christopher Gillette (Zachary Tranter) and Brianna Gillette; and cherished great-grandchildren Cora, Kieran and Oliver Hodlin, Adriana Squatrito and Liam Oldak. Mary was predeceased by her twelve siblings.
Mary's favorite things in life, other than her husband, were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mary could usually be found in her kitchen wearing her apron, baking, making a pot of sauce and planning a "pie day" with a good cup of coffee with friends and family.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Mary's private aide Ama Badu for her 9 years of companionship and Vitas Healthcare, Hospice Care Team, especially Nurse Penelope Franco-Rivera and Nurse Lisa Carpenter for their loving care and the sense of peace they brought to Mary and her family.
Friends and family may call on the Hodlin family on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A service celebrating Mary's life will follow in the funeral home at 11:00 am. Burial to follow in Village Cemetery, 1 Marsh Street, Wethersfield.
