Grace Evelyn (Benson) Reidburn, 91, died April 27, 2017, at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Grace was born November 14, 1925, in Frankfort, SD to Sherman and Ethel (Hanley) Benson. She attended all 12 years in the Clark school system and graduated from Clark High School in 1943. Upon graduation she worked in Seattle, WA. On January 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Bernard Reidburn and upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy they resided in Clark, SD. In 1952 they moved to Frankfort, SD where they operated the Frankfort Café, and then moved to Des Moines, IA in 1960. Grace worked at McCoy's Clothing until 1967. She then worked for Principal Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1988. In 1988 they moved to Lake Ponderosa in Montezuma, IA and later moved to West Des Moines in 1995. She moved to Illahee Hills in Urbandale in 2016 and made many friends and loved her time there. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Clive, IA.

Grace is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Robert) Centner of Fairfield, IA; two sons, Butch (Marsha) of Des Moines, IA and Kerry (Elizabeth) of Norwalk, IA; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and one great-great-granddaughter; and brother-in-law, Dean Dudley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert and his wife, Mary Ann; sister, Myrtle Heffernan and her husband, John; sister, Mary Dudley; brother-in-law, Harold Reidburn and his wife, Hazel; sister-in-law, Doris Drake and her husband, Marshall; and cousin-in-law, Alvah Macer and his wife, Mildred.

We would like to thank the staff at Methodist West and Illahee Hills Senior Living Center in Urbandale for the great care mom received while there.

Memorials may be made to the Unity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, IA.

I will miss our Monday morning Bridge games at Illahee with Grace. She always came with her smile and readiness to play. She would come in either 1st or 2nd as she was a good bridge player.
Our foursome of Eleanor, Barb, and myself will miss Grace.

I worked with Grace at Principal. She was the most amazing mother figure to us young girls. I just loved her and stayed in contact with her over the years. Her smile was priceless and her laugh would make me laugh. What a gem!! She will definitely be missed. Love you Grace, until we meet again!

I am a fairly new server at Illahee Hills (about two months now) and during my time here I've gotten to spend some time with Grace and I've always highly enjoyed her company. I always looked forward to seeing her with her great smile and kind words. She was a wonderful lady and I am going to miss her so, so much. When I heard about the news the 28th my heart shattered and cried all night. I am so, so sorry for your loss and I really do hope to make it to the service. Much, much love to all of the family.

Your mother was such a special person to me. I played bridge with her at Illahee Hills for several years. There was one time that she took me for an eye appointment and I had to have special care for a couple of days so without thinking she took me home and took care of me. I loved her dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
