Grace Smith
Grace Edith Smith of Midland, Michigan, died on November 11, 2025, at Stratford Pines Nursing Center after a prolonged illness. Grace was 91 years old. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 4, 1934; one of five children of Mark and Beatrice (Rambo) Cheney.
Grace earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Michigan, where she met her future husband Harry A. Smith. They were married on July 14, 1956, and raised three wonderful children. Harry predeceased Grace on March 12, 2015.
Grace was an avid reader, baker, sewed many of her clothes and for 20 years she owned and operated Grandma's House Day Care in Midland. All throughout her life, Grace was very active in volunteering at the churches she attended, including First Baptist Church of Midland and the Midland Church of the Brethren. Her dedication to others in need was the reason she received the Reverend Glenn E. Baumann Community Service Award for helping young mothers and their children at the health department and the West Midland Family Center.
Grace is survived by her sons, Harry Smith Jr. (Beth) and Russell Smith (Janette), and her daughter Cheryl Felch; her grandchildren, Erica Blue (Chris), Jordan Smith and Katherine Smith. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband Harry; her parents Mark and Beatrice Cheney; her son-in-law Dennis Felch; her sisters, Naomi Collins and Eleanor Boe; and her brothers, Mark Cheney and George Cheney.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Midland Church of the Brethren, 1717 E. Sugnet Rd., Midland. The family will greet guests on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland, Michigan and on Saturday at the church starting at 10:00 AM.
