Grant Albert Thompson, age 92, passed away March 6, 2026 in Layton, Utah. He was born in Brigham City, Utah on December 10, 1933 the son of Claudy Albert and Zella Jane Price Thompson.

Raised in Nampa Idaho, Dad was always an Idaho boy at heart. He also lived in Kaysville, West Point, St George, and Clearfield, Utah. He was a graduate of Nampa High School Class of 1953. Grant loved being a Nampa Bulldog

He married Esther Caley on June 8, 1956 in the Los Angeles California Temple. They have been married for 70 years.

Grant loved serving in the military. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953. While enlisted in the Navy he served in the Philippines and Guam. After active duty he continued his military service in the Navy reserves, performing his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities in the Seabees. Dad had an opportunity to transfer from the Navy Seabees to the Air Force Reserves and became a member of the 67th Arial Port Squadron at Hill Air Force Base. As a member of the 67th he gained many lifelong cherished friendships.

Grant was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Grant and Esther served a full-time mission for the church in Sydney Australia from August of 1989 to January of 1991.

Grant retired as an Air Freight Supervisor from Hill Air Force Base. He is also retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve

Grant loved to travel and had many opportunities to see the world through his military service. He loved working in the yard and in the garden. He also loved studying the gospel of Jesus Christ and spending time with his family. Papa loved sharing stories with his family.

He is survived by his wife Esther Caley Thompson, children; Debbie Stratford (Wade), Colleen Schofield (LaMont), John Thompson (Joyce), Beverly Sudweeks (Kirt), daughter-in-law Christine Smith Thompson, beloved foster son Kevin Lynn Thompson (Charlotte), 19 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents Claudy Albert Thompson and Zella Jane Price, sister Janice Long, brothers-in-law Zed Long, David Pearcey, sisters-in-law Carolee Thompson, Sandra Thompson, and son Kim Grant Thompson

In Lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Humanitarian Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The family wishes to thank all those who provided care for Grant during his final days.

The funeral service will be held Friday March 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary 1867 North Fairfield Rd., Layton Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.

Interment will be held at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton
