Greg Robert Goldberg, born in Chicago, IL on September 24, 1962, passed away in Skokie, IL on November 14, 2025. Greg is survived by his brothers Jay, Ross, and Mitchell and his sister Roberta. He remained close with his late sister Sandy until her passing in 2020. He is survived also by his ex-wife Caryn and their children, Justin and Jessica, along with his granddaughter Lydia.
From a young age, Greg was a friend and champion to those less fortunate than himself. He gravitated towards those that other children his age shunned, many with handicaps or disabling childhood diseases. One friend, at times, could not walk on their own. Greg would carry him on his back. A number of these friends did not survive to adulthood. Dealing with such loss at a young age further strengthened his compassion for those most in need.
After completing high school, Greg earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. By this time he had solidified himself as a staunch pacifist. On his block or halfway around the world, he knew violence was not the answer.
Greg had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He put this talent to use especially when indulging his passions for sports and rock and roll. From the Cubs' first night game at Wrigley Field on 8/8/88 to crucial games during the Bulls' six championship runs in the 1990s to the Bears clinching a trip to Super Bowl XLI, he was there to see it live. Guitar picks and drumsticks served as proof that he wasn't just at a concert, he was front and center. Perhaps even backstage.
Greg never stopped making friends. As much as he loved artists like The Who, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., and U2, he loved equally connecting with people who could match his musical knowledge, or even teach him something new on the subject after all these years.
Neil Young sang, "It's better to burn out than fade away." Greg took that to heart. He will be missed.
