Gregory Lee Spikes, age 67, of Reidsville, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at his residence and under the compassionate care of PruittHealth Hospice.
Greg was born on June 28, 1958, in Reidsville to Charles and Mary Lou (Powell) Spikes. He grew up on the Georgia State Prison Reservation and graduated from Reidsville High School in 1976. After growing up on the prison reservation and seeing first hand the importance of the jobs; he began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections, where he worked as a maintenance engineer. He ultimately retired from the department, having devoted many years of faithful and dedicated service to the State of Georgia.
In his free time, Greg enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he had a deep love for music, especially the sounds of the 1970s and 1980s. Although stricken with various illnesses later in life, he always maintained a positive spirit. As his mobility declined, Greg discovered a new hobby and for the last 25 years thoroughly enjoyed buying and selling gold and silver coins, building a vast collection that he truly cherished. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and enduring love for his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Greg is survived by his sister, Belinda Waters of Reidsville; two nephews, Dalton Rushing of Register and Justin Jarriel of Collins; a niece, Alexis Jo Waters of Statesboro; great nieces and nephews, Georgia Grace, John Ray, Andee Jo Rushing, and Landon Jarriel; a longtime companion, Sherry Wilson of Vidalia; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial.
