Gregory Ames Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bennie Smith Funeral Homes - Salisbury on Oct. 31, 2025.
Gregory's Journey
Gregory Dale Ames was born on December 12, 1960 in Snow Hill, Maryland, to the late Wilmer Ames, Sr. and Sarah Ames. He transitioned peacefully on October 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
Greg, as he was affectionately known, received his education through Worcester County Public Schools and was a 1978 graduate of Snow Hill High School. After graduating, Greg spent most of his adult years in Washington, DC.
Throughout his life, Greg worked various jobs, including security work and at the local farmer's markets in Washington, DC. There he was known for his friendly presence and hardworking spirit.
Greg was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to watch every game and trash talk family and friends while sporting his black and gold. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends, sharing laughs and good times. But above all, Greg loved his family. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. Greg's warm smile, generous heart, and dedication to his family will be forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Greg leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by: his mother, Sarah Ames; two daughters, LaKeisha Ames and Anita Oney; two sons, Damon Cole and Turray Simms; his longtime partner, Belinda Johnson; two granddaughters, LaNiyah Ames and Kai Jordan; one great-grandson, Dalaneo Ames and four bonus daughters, Raina Pugh, LaChelle Johnson-Britton, Rachel Johnson, and Rachelle Johnson. He is also survived by: one brother, Maurice Ames, Sr.; four sisters, Glenda Smith, Brenda Ames, Denise Ames, and Debbie Hardy; best friends, Dwayne Talbot and Maurice Deshields and a host of aunts, uncles, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilmer Ames, Sr. and two brothers, Bruce Ballard and Wilmer Ames, Jr.
Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
