Gregory Archer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duncan Graves Funeral Home - Presque Isle on Sep. 25, 2025.
Mapleton - Gregory R. Archer, 75, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 25, 1950, in Mapleton, the beloved son of Clarence and Amber Rose (McDougal) Archer.

Greg married the love of his life, Barbara, on July 28, 1984. Their story began at Fish Lake, where they first met and fell in love. From that moment on, they shared a bond built on love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Together, they created a lifetime of memories hunting in the woods and fishing on quiet waters-always happiest when they were side by side.

When Greg married Barbara, he didn't just gain a wife-he also gained three children who, more often than not, gave him a run for his money. With patience, humor, and a big heart, he stepped into that role wholeheartedly, embracing the beautiful chaos of family life and loving every one of them as his own.

Greg's soul was most at peace in nature. Whether in the stillness of the forest or the gentle rhythm of a river, he found joy in the simplest of things. In his final days, he carried his fishing pole down to the Mill Stream, casting his line with the same quiet patience and contentment that had carried him through life. It is there, watching the water and feeling the tug of the reel, that we will forever picture him-at rest, at peace, and at home.

Above all, Greg's greatest devotion was to his family. He lived with a fierce and unshakable love for them, a love that will remain long after his passing. His absence will leave an ache in the hearts of all who were blessed to call him Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and friend.

Greg is survived by his two sons, James (Tabby) Hand and Steven (Tammy) Hand, and his daughter, Sandra (Jason) Fournier. He also leaves behind his brother, Graydon (Mary) Archer; his sister, Kathleen Blair; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, each of whom he cherished deeply.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Alan Archer; his sister, Sheila Archer; two nephews, James Barclay and Glenn Philbrook; and his most faithful companions-his beloved pets, King, Missey-Boo, Beener, Smokey, Cuddles, and Sheba.

Services will be held at a later date… but until then, our Dad has gone fishing.

Arrangements are in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.duncan-graves.com
