Gregory Baines Obituary

Gregory "Greg" L. Baines, 73, of Wakarusa, formerly of Elkhart, entered into the presence of Jesus at 8:23 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at The Waters of Wakarusa. Greg had been in declining health in recent years.

He was born on March 6, 1952, in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Walter and Mary (Denney) Baines.

Greg moved to Elkhart with his family in 1953 and he attended Concord High School. He lived in the Elkhart community until his move to the nursing home. He was a talented musician and artist and enjoyed building and showing his 1936 Ford Coupe Street Rod. Greg was previously employed at Conrail.

Greg became a Christian after he moved in with his mother to care for her until her passing at the age of 96.

He is survived by his sons; Nick Marks and Bryan (Renee) Berry, both of Elkhart and a daughter, Angela (Braxton) Clarke of North Carolina; grandchildren Jayden and Brady Marks, Jack and Ben Berry and Lyn and Hayden Nelms as well as a foster brother, Bob Denney.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heidi and Charity at The Waters in Wakarusa, for the special care given to Greg during his time there.

A Memorial Service for Greg will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 6:00 p.m at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held starting at 5:30 pm. Cremation has taken place and Greg will be buried with his parents in a private ceremony at Prairie Street Cemetery.
