Greg Barnhart was born December 16, 1962, in Sidney, NE to Benjamin and Rita Barnhart. He spent most of his early life in Sidney, attending St. Patrick's Catholic School and later attending Sidney Public Schools. His classmates could tell many adventures and misadventures. After graduating in 1981 he attended Western Nebraska Community College while waiting to begin his apprenticeship to become an electrician. This was his father's trade, and he followed in that tradition.
He married Pamela Wooldridge, and they welcomed two children, first Sharon and later Dustin. Greg and Pam first settled in Greeley, CO then they lived in NE while finally ending up in the Peetz, CO area. When they were in Lewellen, they owned and operated The Plainsman Convenience Store, Café and Bar. Greg and Pam loved being grandparents. They were married for 27 years when Pam passed away. Six years later, in May of 2018, he married Heidi Timmerman and became the stepdad to her clan.
Greg loved being an electrician and welcomed the challenges and variety that this career offered. He started as an apprentice, then became a journeyman, and finally became a master electrician and electrical contractor. He had his own shop, Plainsman Electric, and also worked for a time for the electrical department for the City of Sidney. He was a proud member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 68. As an electrician he worked at a variety of large jobs including the Tech Center in South Denver, several powerhouses, the prison in Sterling, hospitals, office buildings, as well as many homes.
If you knew Greg, you knew of his deep love of hunting and fishing. He enjoyed teaching his grandkids to fish. He was happiest hunting with his brothers and friends or seeking the walleye.
Greg is survived by his wife Heidi, brother Mike Barnhart, sisters Lila (Tim) Bassett, Bernadine (Darrell) Peterson, Charlene (Danny) Amen, and brother Brian (Jamie) Barnhart, daughter Sharon Barnhart and son Dustin Barnhart. Stepchildren Jamie Kauffman, Kent (Jodi) Kauffman, Alexis (Nik) Johnson, Zachary (Gwen) Buss, and Jordan Buss. Grandchildren Evian Barnhart, Brennan Barnhart, Kyler Ward, Alex Hillyer, Tanner and Jadyn Kauffman, Sophie Carlson, Graysen, Mila, and Violet Buss as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Rita, first wife Pamela, sister-in-law Marianne Barnhart, and nephews Jeremy, Dominego, and Tyson.
