Gregory “Greg” A. Benson, 62, of New Castle passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 following an extended illness. He was born February 13, 1963 in New Castle to the late Clinton L. and Gola L. (Davis) Benson.

Greg was a talented, self-taught musician. He loved playing the guitar and helping others learn to play. He loved spending time with his family and fiercely protected them. Greg was a 1982 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School then later went to work for the New Castle State Development Center as a Behavioral Specialist where he loved his co-workers and patients. He had many close friends that meant the world to him. Greg was a jokester and enjoyed telling a good, corny joke. He was a kind, caring individual who would help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie L. Benson; children, Clinton A. Benson and Rebecca M. Fairchild; granddaughter, Autumn Fairchild and a granddaughter due in April; a sister, Sherry McRoberts; mother-in-law, Carla Hibbard; brothers-in-law, David Hibbard, Joe (Ashley) Hibbard and Tony Polston and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, John Benson; sister, Pam Hinman; grandmother, Becky Davis; nephew, Dakota Daniel Hibbard; a sister-in-law, Tracy Polston and father-in-law, Dave W. Hibbard.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with cremation to take place at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service. You may express condolences or share a memory of Greg at www.hinsey-brown.com.
