Gregory H. Castello closed this chapter of his earthly existence on February 17, 2023 at age 71. Born in New York City, he was the first child of Margaret and Anthony Castello. Greg attended DeWitt Clinton High School and wanted to work in the radio broadcast industry. Had he been born 20 years later, he would have been a podcaster with a huge following. He became a taxi driver in New York City and thrived on meeting his passengers, hearing their often strange and wondrous stories, gaining wisdom, sharing laughter, and mastering the fine insanity of being a NYC cabbie.
Greg moved to New Hampshire and drove a limousine for many years, then moved to Las Vegas in 2008 and continued his career with AWG Limousine. Raised Catholic, he later found joy as a member of the Bahai'i faith and served a term as Treasurer of his local community. He had a great sense of humor and his laugh came from the heart.
After retiring, Greg worked on projects to provide financial assistance to struggling homeowners, and recently on a 3D printing educational initiative for one of Nevada's Native American nations.
Greg leaves behind his sister Bonnie Castello, cousins Patsy Doyle of Castlebar, Ireland, Debra and Mark Walz, Christopher Donnelly, Steven and Christine Donnelly, Janice Steele, Anita McKenna Downs, Rita McKenna Conway, Linda Swank, Jackie Spironello, and all their wonderful children and grandchildren. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew in spirit, Sorina and Constantin Dinca. In death Greg joins his first cousin Michael Donnelly whom we pray will show Greg his path home.
A celebration of Greg's life will be held in the spring for his Las Vegas family and friends, followed by another gathering in NY in early summer. His remains will be buried in our family plot at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
Greg was an organ donor and he believed in paying things forward. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name. Greg supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, World Wildlife Fund and PBS.
