Gregory Holdt Obituary

GREGORY HUGH HOLDT
July 11, 1958 ˜ July 12, 2023

Greg Holdt was an active, adventurous, funny, boyish, charismatic guy who loved making conversations with everyone he met. He was born in 1958 and graduated from Evergreen HS in 1977. His youthful energy never went away and you could always tell he had a 70’s vibe.

Greg was an excellent skier, biker and tennis player. He was inspired to play tennis by Swedish tennis sensation Bjorn Borg and even kind of looked like him too. He was a member of Club Green Meadows throughout the 80s and 90s until some injuries made him step away. He never stopped bicycling nor did he stop skiing. He was up on Mount Hood as much as possible and loved sharing his passion for the mountains and the outdoors with others.

Greg loved spending time at the family cabin which was built in 1981. He spent many summers out on the boat shrimping and crabbing, or combing the beach for oysters and clams with his late father Hugh (d. 2003); brother, Curt; sister-in-law, Barbara; as well as other family, friends and work colleagues. Greg never married or had kids, instead he spent a lot of time with his niece, Andreea, and nephew, Nick, who he adored until the very end.

Greg loved his mother, Pauleen; and in recent years, Greg spent a lot of time with with her at her assisted living residence at Glenwood Place. Both are members of the Sons of Norway Hall, so he enjoyed taking her there for lefse with lingonberries and other treats.

Greg died of an unexpected heart attack the day after his 65th birthday, shocking everyone. He was one-of-a-kind and will be sorely missed.

Although Greg wished to be cremated, there will be a viewing at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens (1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98684) on Friday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for all who want to say goodbye in person.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Royal Oaks Country Club (8917 NE 4th Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA 98662), where there will be tacos and oysters in honor of Greg, two of his favorite foods. Family and friends are welcome to attend and share happy stories and memories of Uncle Greg.

We met when I was his tennis coach in 1980. Our relationship grew quickly and we were together in Florida for many different memorable occasions. For the past decade, he was the number one dog sitter in the USA! He lived in our home as we were running a club on Martha's Vineyard. All of our animals were blessed to have Greg in their lives. He was the most caring dog person in the world. We have too many incredible memories to discuss but his impact on us with live forever in our hearts. He was kind, sensitive, caring, good person one could ever imagine. We both adored music and listened together for hours and hours. Greg, you will be missed and never forgotten.

Greg, you´ve been in and out of our family´s lives since Eastmoreland Racquet Club in the 70s and Florida in the 80s. Then last year you flew to Arizona for our 80th birthday. You extended an invitation to Hood canal for this summer which we´ll always regret not coming. Your life of a free spirit has enhanced ours immeasurably. Bryan and Charito.
