After four years of valiantly battling cancer, Gregory Lee Hustad, 69, of Colfax, WI died peacefully in his home, August 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 29, 1955 in Cumberland, WI to Roy and Eileen (Wickstrom) Hustad. Greg grew up on the family farm with his parents and three older siblings. After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1973, he helped out on the family farm while completing an associates degree in Animal Husbantry. He went on to work in a laboratory as a milk tester and "bootstrapped" his way into establishing his career as a network engineer within the dairy and agricultural industry.
In 1976, Greg met the love of his life, Virginia 'Gina' Bauer. They wed on May 13, 1978 in Eau Claire, WI. After welcoming two sons, they put down roots in Colfax, WI. Greg was the epitome of a devoted husband and father leading a life of quiet faith, diligent work, and steadfast devotion to his family. Greg's deep and abiding love for his sons was demonstrated through his continual support of their unique hobbies as he nurtured their individuality. His eyes would sparkle while eagerly sharing their stories.
Greg's zeal for life and sense of adventure was evident in everything from the vast array of activities he enjoyed to the way he boldly navigated medical issues. In early adulthood he pursued interests including: rocketry, chemistry, scuba dive search & rescue, rollerskating, motorcycle riding and driving hot rods. In later adulthood, he added in camping, ATV-ing, dancing, and much more. Of all his hobbies, flying is the sport that captured his heart. In 1999, Greg earned his pilot's license and purchased his Cessna 150. The joy and fulfillment he found in flight permeated all aspects of his life. He generously shared his gift of flying with his family and friends which enriched his relationships.
Greg considered himself someone who preferred solitude but, his devotion to creating strong family relationships kept him in continual connection with others. You could always count on Greg to answer the phone, dive into helping solve a problem, and accept an invitation for an event or a same day meet up. Even moreso, Greg and Gina's door has always been open to others. Those that know them will speak of their meticulously curated events including classic Christmases and festival style 4th of July parties. Although his time on earth was shorter than hoped; he had a full life. He lived it intentionally and has left a legacy that will last the generations.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; Roy & Eileen Hustad, brother Loris Hustad. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Bauer) Hustad, sons; Jake (Carrie) Hustad of Prior Lake, MN and Taylor (Rebecca) Hustad of Menomonie, WI. Grandchildren; Corbin Hustad, Sadie Hustad, Cole Hustad, Victor Hustad, Clara Hustad, Caleb Hustad, Ruth Hustad. Siblings, Allen (Linda) Hustad, Sharon (Bob) Neuenfeldt and many nephews and nieces.
A service will be held in his honor at noon on September 7, 2024 at Olson Funeral Home, in Menomonie, WI with Pastor Jack Stimmel officiating. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10:00am.

I most remember Greg and my brother John roller skating as teens every weekend. I am sure it was to impress the girls, but they so enjoyed it. Also, watching them develop the film from the pictures they took at the high school games. They spent a lot of time together and were great friends to each other.
