Where will the feral cats go now for compassion.
To find someone who cares to know them and feed them and help them grow.
A curious soul with room in his life who will open his door and his heart?
That was Greg. Patient, generous, frugal, curious, creative, gentle, and welcoming.
He lived on his terms. His fascinations were his life. He sought to understand the universe, from the smallest to the largest. And to communicate what he learned to others. He was driven to connect with others through that sharing.
Like most young men, we observed, first hand, the the awesome power of physics in our lives. Anticipation of awesome rapid chemical reactions made us giggle with anticipation and revel in the result. We embraced the danger, celebrated our safety, and took pride in understanding what most folks regarded as "over their heads".
Sometimes, after many years of safety, in our passion to achieve and understand, in our impatience for a moment of discovery, little by little, we ignore our sensible urges to leave ourselves adequate egress from peril. Confidence can be dangerous and fire has a hunger and a mind of it's own. A mind? Flames naturally spread to areas that extend the fire's life. We once asked, "Is a flame intelligent?", and discussed it for hours.
Greg's fire, his passion, was his curiosity; his striving to learn things through personal experience. He loved nothing more than to share his knowledge with others. I personally learned a great deal from him. Some of the exchanges we had as young scientists shaped the person I am today. I will be grateful for him till my last breath.
