Gregory C. Kowalczyk III, age 36, passed away on December 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Greg was born on March 31, 1989, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, to Gregory C. Kowalczyk Jr. and Karina Saitas Kowalczyk.

In his youth, he was actively involved in the Special Olympics, where he enjoyed participating in basketball and track. He especially loved riding his three-wheeled bike through the neighborhood with his brother and sister. Some of Greg’s favorite moments were spent fishing in Canada with his family, going on cruises with his grandparents, and traveling to hockey tournaments to support his brother. Bowling held a special place in his heart as well; Greg proudly bowled in a league alongside his dad and brother, a tradition that brought him great happiness. Everywhere he went, Greg had a natural ability to make friends. His warm personality, easy smile, and genuine interest in others allowed him to form meaningful connections and leave a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Throughout his life, Greg faced significant medical challenges with courage and resilience. He received the extraordinary gift of kidney donations from both his father and his brother at different points in his life. Their devotion gave Greg additional years filled with family and meaningful moments that he deeply cherished.

Greg’s bond with his mother was profound and unwavering. He cared for her deeply and instinctively looked out for her, always attentive to her needs and quick to offer comfort, affection, or reassurance. Greg took great pride in being there for her, and his love for his mom was one of the defining relationships of his life.

He also adored his Shiba Inu, Sam, and treasured their walks together. Inspired by Superman, Greg lived with kindness, protectiveness, and a genuine desire to help others, making him a hero in the everyday lives of those who knew him.

Known for his infectious smile, quick humor, and smooth, charming personality, Greg had a gift for making people laugh and was famous for his suave flirting, which never failed to bring smiles to those around him. His warmth and bright spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Greg is survived by his parents, Gregory C. Kowalczyk (Teresa O’hara) and Karina Kowalczyk (Saitas); his siblings, Garrett “Goby” Kowalczyk, Steffani “Babe” (Eli) Capili, and William Kowalczyk; and his beloved niece, Juliette, who will miss roughhousing with her uncle. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Barbara Kowalczyk and Phyllis Lawson, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who loved him dearly and will carry his memory forward with affection and pride.

Greg was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents: Grandma and Grandpa “Big House,” Inez and John Bauer; Grandpa “Tractor,” Gregory Kowalczyk Sr.; and Grandpa Ted Saitas.

Visitation will be held on January 4, 2026, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake Street, Roselle, Illinois 60172. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM.
