Memoir to Gregory S. Martin
Gregory S. Martin passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at 12:45 pm. He was 57 years old, born in 1954. Words cannot express the pain and sorrow felt from losing him before his time and all too soon. Greg is survived by his wife, Janell, his 2 children (Jessie and Cory), 4 grandchildren (Zoe, Gabriel, Nikki and Eva), 4 sisters (Pamela, Kathy, Melissa, and Lori) and 2 brothers (Michael and Bobby), his 2 dogs. Poe Po Lo Lo and Lucky Boy, and you can’t miss his turtle Mr. Snappy. Greg will be missed by many friends from the west coast to the east coast, as well as on his e-bay store and facebook.
Some of things that will be missed most is hearing his voice in that larger than life tone. He would always talk about his pets and grandchildren while using funny nicknames that we called Gregisms. Greg loved Tennessee and him and Janellie (Greg’s nickname for Janelle) where happy and content.
Greg started out working in electronics, and later worked mostly in Sales/Marketing; however, he was also a talented artisan jeweler, and made and sold his own jewelry. His best known gift of all was that he was an incredible cook. Greg had so many interests and hobbies. He loved coin collecting, gem collecting, jewelry making, camping, fishing, watching Disney and Sci-fi movies and so much more. Greg loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, and his animals were truly his best friends. He made the things that mattered most in life, like family, tradition and togetherness, his main focus, and in doing so, reminded everyone around him to stop and recognize the significance of life’s sacred truths. A remembered trip by Janell is their camping trip to the Smokey Mountains. We had such a wonderful time! We cooked out and had delicious salmon and vegetables (he was a great cook even on a makeshift fire). We went fishing and hiking, but then, it started raining and raining and raining, and then it rained some more (Big Water! As Greg would say). Everything was soaked. We had to pack everything up in the middle of the night and drive down the mountain. It was very scary in the pouring rain. We were not sure where we were going, and we were already exhausted beyond belief. I thought for sure we were going to end up down in one of the mountain streams/rivers on the side of the road. Greg was so strong through it all – even when I couldn’t take anymore and was falling asleep. That same trip we got to mine for emeralds, rubies and more at the Hiddenites mine in North Carolina. We ended up in North Carolina at the Beach of course. What a great trip – we only wished all the kids and grandchildren were with us. It was good though, just the 2 of us! Greg took care of everyone! As his daughter said, he made everything possible. He was our Hero! We will be lost without him. Greg, I love and miss you dearly………LOVE YOU!!!!
