Gregory Mcdonald

We were neighbors when he and his family lived on Maplewood St in Watertown, Mass. I would see him walking home from work and could see that he was thinking of something. He once told me that he has so many things up there, his mind, that it hurt.
RIP, Greg

With great sadness in my heart I recently found out that Gregory McDonald had passed away. My 50 th class reunion is coming up in a few weeks - end of October and that prompted me to research the best and most inteligent, and inspiring teacher ever!

I was in my freshman year at Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton, MA. when I first met Mr. McDonald. He taught freshman English at the time and I can honestly say that I learned so much from him and I have mentioned his teachings throughout my years as a teacher myself. What an incredible human being. Your presence is still felt in My heart and I feel super fortunate to have had you touch my life the way that you have. May you Rest In Peace Gregory McDonald.

I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the family. Hoping and praying that the God Of of all comfort will continue to comfort you.

I cannot believe I'll never see Greg again after recently finding the Greg Mcdonald website, and seeing a picture of him gamboling across the fields of his Tennessee farm. When I saw him, I planned to say, "Gee, Greg, you didn't look that young when I knew you and Susie thirty years ago." My former husband and I met Greg when he worked for the Boston Globe. Reading his columns, you recognized a writer, even if one not always quite sure what he wanted to say. Greg found his voice with the Fletch novels. It doesn't sound like Greg changed much. Yes, he could think of himself as a celebrity, but he could be self-deprecating about those columns. He was a good friend, kind and helpful. When Larry and I opened Blumsacks, Greg scraped the old tiles behind the deli counter on his hands and knees. When former Secretary of State Michael Connolly was working on a novel, later made into a movie, Greg encouraged him. Reading the Legacy letters, I saw no one writing from Boston. I hope Steve Mindich and Larry Stark know about Greg's death. My condolences to his family and friends, and my friend Susie.

At the age of thirteen I was fortunate enough to meet a man who would inspire me for the rest of my life & light a fire under me that no other person could. As an aspiring young author meeting Gregory Mcdonald was & still is one of the best moments of my life that I will always treasure. Not many men in his position would have taken the time to advise & encourage me as he did. For a little while I let things get in the way of the dreams & plans I had, but at the age of 34 I still remember him telling me he believed in my talent & hoped to have me as a competitor one day. A few years ago when I decided to pursue my career again & began to make some headway he called to congratulate me & once again inspire & encourage. I feel in many ways that I let him down by wasting so much of my life not pursuing my career & utilizing the advice he gave me, but his words are still comforting, & I fully intend to live up to the expectations he had of me & make him proud in the end. While most of the world will remember him for his talent & novels such as Fletch & The Brave, I will remember & honor those things, but I will cherish the person he was. To his family & friends, I grieve with you & my heart aches for you. All my condolences. I am so very truly sorry for your tragic loss!!

Gregory MacDonald's wit and wisdom
will not be forgotten. I shall remember him best dressed disguised as Sherlock Holmes while lurking on the sidelines during the MLK protest
of 1989. "Pulaski doesn't deserve this," he said. I'm not quite sure we deserved Greg. He taught us how to stand up for ourselves and for that, we should all be greatful.

Will always remember him and have most of his books from the Running Scared mystery novel

REST IN PEACE GREGORY MCDONALD

The world has lost a fantastic author. Mr. McDonald's books contained some of modern fiction's wittiest dialogue. I spent countless hours engrossed in the tales of Skylar, Flynn, and Irwin M. Fletcher. While he will be sorely missed, his legacy is still alive through his wonderful characters. Don't go through life having not read one of Gregory McDonald's books. Rest in peace, Mr. McDonald; here's hoping there are word processors in heaven.

I just want you to know that Flecth and Flecth Lives are the best movies of all time. Althought I havent read your book I'm sure there great. You will be missed.
