NORFOLK - Funeral services with Fireman Honors for Gregory A. Monroe, 59, a resident of 222 Marsh Road, Norfolk, will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lee Sweeney presiding. Following the services, burial will be held in the Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk and a Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at the Norfolk American Legion. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. Greg passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at his home with family at his side.
Greg is survived by his wife Mary of 41 years and together they raised eight children, Joseph and Tina Bullock, Jarred and Christa Bullock, Jessica Reynolds and Mark Buffham, Jason Monroe and Ashley Radell, Samantha Monroe, Timothy Monroe and Shelbie Oakes, Emily Monroe and Dawson Villnave, Cheyenne and Tristen Dubuque; his beloved 21 grandchildren, Haiden, Blake, Breanna, Austin, Natalia, Emily, Aliyah, Alyssa, Caidyn, Milo, Meah, Logan, Sophia, Sienna, Michael, Abagail, Kinslie, Wyatt, Bradley and Sawyer and soon to be, Branson, who is expected in February 2026. Greg is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sherry Monroe; a brother, Carl Monroe and Naomi Phillips; his brother and sister in-laws, Donna Kaiser, Joann O'Connell, Lori and Robert Queor, Claude and Lois Monroe, Kevin and Kenzi Monroe, Matt and Robin Monroe, Dawn Monroe, Pam Monroe and to many chosen brothers and sister to list. Greg was pre-deceased by his parents, three brothers, Timothy, Daryl and Scott, a chosen brother, Dennis Levac Jr., sister in-laws Cynthia Houle and Claudia Clough and two nieces, Nicole Clough and Marlise Bond.
Born in Potsdam, NY on May 21, 1966 to the late Wayne E. and Beverly Colton Monroe, and graduated from Canton Central School. He grew up in Potsdam and later moved to Raymondville. Greg worked several jobs over the years until he began his career at the St. Lawrence County Highway Department, working for 28 1/2 years until cancer forced him to retire. He was a 40 year member of the Norfolk Fire Department. In those years, Greg received several awards, his proudest being the 2005 St. Lawrence County Fireman of the Year Award. He held many positions including Chief and Assistant Chief as well. He loved the fire service and his fellow brothers. In his free time, he loved to hunt and camp, spending many years on the river at Jellybeans Riverside Campground where he made even more friends and family. He enjoyed riding his side by side looking for adventures. Greg was the past president of the Tri-Town Little League and a member of the St. Regis Falls Sportsman Club. Most of all, Greg loved being around all his family and brother firemen. Memorial donations in Greg's memory can be made to the Norfolk Fire Department, Box 511,
