Gregory "Greg" Todd Payne, 65, of Moon Township, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare in Oakland, following a devastating spinal cord injury. He received exceptional and compassionate care from the dedicated hospital staff.

Beloved brother of Pamela Johnson (William) of Freedom and Albert E. "Chip" Payne III (Tammy) of Pennington, NJ. Cherished uncle of Ashley Simpson (Greg) of Franklin Park and Colton Payne, and proud great-uncle of Holden Simpson. Father of Bradley Payne (Kristen) of Ambridge, PA; Campion Payne and Patricia Payne, both of Wilsonville, OR. Grandfather of Lucas, Carter, and Jackson Payne.

Greg honorably served over 20 years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E6). He served as a flight nurse in Afghanistan, Desert Storm, and multiple overseas deployments. Following his distinguished military career, Greg continued his service to others as a nurse and later as a limousine driver.

An avid golfer, Greg especially enjoyed playing at Firestone Farms in Ohio and was proud to have achieved a hole-in-one at Lake Arthur. In 2010, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel, a recognition of his dedication and service. He loved Penn State football, attending Pirates games, and sharing good meals with family. He was a lifelong fan of Pittsburgh sports teams.

In recent years, Greg made his home at the VA Community Living Center in Butler, where he was an active and valued member of the community. He deeply appreciated the camaraderie of fellow veterans and the outstanding care provided by the staff.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Hills Clubhouse in Freedom. A private interment of ashes will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Monday, November 24.

Memorial contributions may be made to support recreational programming for residents of Greg's former home:
