Gregory Peed Obituary

Gregory "Greg" Landon Peed Sr., 67, of Ellabell, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 leaving behind cherished memories. Born in Alexandria, Virginia on August 31, 1957, Greg lived a full and meaningful life defined by love, laughter, hard work, and family.

Greg was raised in California and after high school, entered the United States Army, which led him to Georgia as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Upon his honorable discharge, he had planned to return to California but met the love of his life, Virgie Rahn, before his departure. The two fell in love and were married February 14, 1979, settled in Savannah, Ga and together they built a beautiful life over 46 years of marriage. They raised two sons and were blessed with four grandchildren who were the lights of his life.

Greg began his career as a mechanic at Richmond Hill Auto Center, but his passion was found in auto restoration. That passion led him to partner with Jim Haney and open Personal Touch Paint and Body Works, where his unmatched eye for perfection and self-taught skill set him apart in the custom car world. His restoration work on high-end classic cars earned him numerous awards and "Best of Show" honors at car shows across multiple states. Of all the awards, recognition and trophies his work earned over the years, the achievement he was most proud of- and pursued most passionately- was "Best Paint".

Beyond his talents in the garage, Greg had a zest for life and many hobbies. He loved riding horses, fishing, playing guitar, golfing both outdoors and on his phone, and battling it out on word games. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Cody, who was every bit a part of the family.

Though Greg officially retired five years ago, he often joked that he was just "retired and now working on classic cars in my backyard 4-bay body shop at my leisure." His hands never truly stopped working- but his heart always had time for what mattered most: his family.

Greg was a dedicated husband, a proud father, and an involved grandfather. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment with them- from water gun fights and hide-and-seek to four-wheeler rides and sharing his playful spirit. Greg had a sense of humor that was larger than life- he was always joking, and if he didn't joke with you, that meant you had something to worry about.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Herb Peed and Linda Nyquist; his beloved son, Johnny Peed; and his loyal companion Cody Peed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virgie Peed; his son, Gregory (Stevee) Peed; four beautiful grandchildren, Jadynn, Savannah, Bella and Brandon Peed; brothers, Don (Pat) Peed, Glenn Peed, Ken Peed (Barbara Newman) and Jason (Annette) Nyquist; sister-in-laws, Sharon (Clint) Baker and Vickie Hart (Dennis Pittman); several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 2, from 6-8pm at Baker McCullough Funeral Home- Garden City Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 3, at 1pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West.

Pallbearers will be Eric Cochran, Mike Cannon, Buddy Shuman, Jack Barfield, Jim Haney and Carl Caoti.

Greg's legacy lives on through the love he poured into his family, the cars he brought back to life, and the laughter he shared with everyone he met.
