I'm Dan Garner. ( just want to share a story about Greg)
I grew up with Gregg and really knew him from 7th grade til into college. we played baseball and football together. I was able to start at 1st base, the first few years, because Greg was not allowed to play on Sundays, which was cool with me.
but once he got to HS, I was off to right field or the bench. Greg was money and we all knew it.
I think both of us really loved football. ( we use to talk about it a lot) while my Sr. year our team did well, the following year Greg and his leadership made it to the goal line and State Championship! I was so proud of him and their accomplishments. Greg was truly a leader of men.
(little know secret about Greg's work ethic..no one knew... )
Greg and I would meet 3 days a week, at least... up at RCHS. fields....working on pass plays... hours and hours... running pass plays.. over and over... so Greg and I would be ready.
Coach Peeler would come up sometimes to direct our workouts..
but if anyone on this string knows the phase "44 Belly"... it was a run play... which RCHS did 95% of the time. (Ha!) But Greg and I were always ready to pass. ( we did beat Central HS on 2 TD pass plays that year!)
I learned from his dad about leadership and accountability , but had the unique perspective to see and watch Greg take that same view and lead in his own way. Greg was special.
Greg was a spiritual, natural, caring leader.... that was always cool about Greg. Man, Greg was a leader and unique as a person.
to the Peeler Family and extended friends.. we are all at a loss.... prayers to all....

I came to know Greg when he came to ISU and played football. I grew up in Peoria, IL and every High School football player knew Coach Peeler from Peoria Richwoods. When Greg came to ISU I was finishing my Senior year. I didn't have a great deal of time to build a relationship with Peels but being Peoria boys the relationship was already built! I contacted Greg just a few months ago via text. A High School young man I Coached was struggling with his College recruiting process and I asked Peels to talk to him. Greg without questions sent this young QB/LB a great message to encourage the young man. I had not talked to Greg since his Father's funeral and never really stayed in touch over the years! However, that didn't deter Peels. He replied with enthusiasm and didn't thing twice about helping me!!! This illustrates the QUALITY of Greg Peeler.
Love,
