Drummers & bass players - nothing happens without that connection, and Greg connected - musically, personally, spirituality... He was kind, he was personable, and he represented his chosen passion with confidence, energy, and commitment. Another loss for the Buffalo music community, and for every life he touched... My sincere condolences to his family. May your pride in the person he was sustain you.

Greg was a gentleman, loved his family and needless to say, one of the most dedicated musicians I know. My sincere condolences to his family who I got to know back in 1995. I looked forward to seeing Greg at the Lewiston Jazz Fests and most recently heard him play in Wilson a while back. May he rest in peace. Cheryl Oliver

My heart and prayers goes out to Greg's family. Words cannot express how sad I feel. Greg was a dear friend. I have many happy memories of Greg from over the past 45 years. Greg was 17 and I was 20 years old when we first met and played together in the fall of 1971. Those were wonderful happy times. They were the times of our youth. It was a real joy to play with Greg. He was a talented, uplifting, positive spirit. He was always a warm, kind, humble, and caring person. Happy memories of Greg will live with me for the rest of my life. Rest in Peace My Friend and May the Perpetual Light Shine upon You.

My sincerest condolences to the Piontek family. Greg was a wonderful man. His warmth, kindness, talent are just a few of the qualities I and many others will miss. Every gig we played together at The Anchor Bar will always be my favorite performances; his presence is the reason. He was the most empathetic bassist, simply amazing. May memories help lighten the weight of your grief.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Greg's passing. I had the pleasure of performing with Greg in a number of musical venues over the years and always admired and respected his musical creativeness. He was always inventive and musical as a soloist and band member. My condolences go out to the Piontek family. He will be deeply missed in the music brotherhood.

Truly saddened to hear this. Greg and I dated for some time when we were in college. A wonderful, loving guy, a wonderful family who accepted me as one of your own. Greg will always hold a special place in my heart. My prayers go out to you and your family. RIP Greg.

Greg and I were students at UB together and then we played many gigs together over the years. Greg was a great great person...warm, wry, intelligent and uncompromising when it came to music. We shared many great conversations and lots of laughs. sometimes I wouldn't see him for many years but we could effortlessly pick up our friendship like we had just been hanging out a week before. I really find it hard to believe that I won't see him or play music with him anymore. He was a treasured member of the music community. My condolences to his family.

My condolences to Rick and the entire Piontek family.
We've lost a treasured friend. I will always remember the beautiful mind, huge heart and deep soul that made Greg the wonderful man and artist that he was. Few people on this earth are as uncompromising in their beliefs and values as was Greg. Even fewer people could tell a story the way Greg could each and every time he picked up the bass. And, nobody I know could make you appreciate a strong cup of coffee and laughter over life's absurdities the way Greg could. You will be missed, yet never forgotten, my friend. You will always be loved by those of us who were lucky enough to know you. Rest in peace, Greg.

Thank you Greg for a life long friendship.
Fond memories visiting you at you apartment,Talking about life, where you are, and where you are going, music in general and sometimes very detailed. In the middle of conversation, you would pick up the chello and play some phenomenal music while we still talked.
I am glad to have known you.
Thank you for sharing.
Rest In Peace my friend.
