Gregory attend Abilene public schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1985. After graduating, he attended trade school in Guthrie, Oklahoma and graduated with a degree In graphic design. As life often does, it gave Gregory many paths to choose from. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas and started his career with the Fort Worth School District in 1995. While living in Fort Worth he met and married Debra Roy. After the passing of his father, Gregory made the decision to move back home to help his mother and sister Robbie. Gregory came home joined the family church, Mount Zion First Baptist Church. Gregory started working for Abilene ISD where he retired in February of 2024. After enjoying his retirement for a short moment, Gregory chose to return to work and was an employee of the City of Abilene until his passing.
Gregory is survived by his mother Mary McGee- Roy and his special lady of fifteen years, Tanya Johnson. Along with his beautiful and beloved children, Brittney Cook (Fort Worth), Michael (Lakeview), Kolby (Utah), and Domonique (Fort Worth). He also leaves eleven beautiful grandchildren. His siblings, Randy Roy (wife Louise), Wendell "Turtle" Conner, Danny Conner, Yvonne Stewart (husband Michael), Robbie Brooks (husband Rodney), Lamonica Roy-Thompson. Along with several aunts and uncles with an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
When Gregory entered a room, you could hear him say "What's going on", and you just knew the coolest guy was in the room and he was dressed to impress. Wherever there was music, he was there dancing on the floor. Whenever there was a game of dominos, you can count on Gregory to be there playing and being loud with his big deep voice filling up the room with his laugh. If the 49ers were playing you can count on Gregory sitting in his chair in his 49ers room, cheering them on as if the players could hear him in their helmets. He loved to be around his family and friends being a light that filled a room. Gregory had a spirit that will always be imitated never be duplicated. Gregory Donnell Roy entered the gates of heaven and was told by the Lord, "Well done thy faithful servant" on February 20, 2025. Gregory is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father (Leeman "Sockeye" Roy) and his brother (Robert "Sock" Roy)
It's never goodbye. It's simply, in Greg's words, "roll it down and keep it down. Oh, and remember I'M THAT...."
(Inside joke for the friends and family)
