Gregory Paul Wagner was born October 19, 1956 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Robert and Joan (Shine) Wagner. He attended Iowa Valley School in Marengo. After graduation he worked for 26 years at the Amana Refrigeration plant before retiring. He married Patricia Johnston of Victor on December 29,1989.
Greg enjoyed working on cars, spending time fishing with family, and searching for antique treasures with his wife. In 2008 Greg began volunteering with Last Hope Animal Rescue an organization that quickly became very close to his heart. Over the years, he and his wife fostered many dogs and adopted some along the way. He generously dedicated countless hours at the organization's first shelter in Shellsburg and, in 2015, played an important role in renovating their new location in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his commitment to LHAR Greg also devoted his time to other nonprofit organizations in the area. Above all else, he cherished time with his grandchildren and couldn't have been a prouder Grandpa.
Greg is survived by his loving wife Patricia; daughter, Sarah (Jesse) Kohnke of Brooklyn, son Nicholas Wagner of Homestead and step-son Brian Altemeier of Brooklyn; 3 grandchildren, Jayden, Harper, and Barrett; step mother Jackie Wagner of Marengo, Also surviving are 3 brothers, Mark (Jane) of Hudson, Lyn (Dana) of Marengo, and Todd of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joan.
