She was born on March 29, 1935, to Eugene and Clara (Gordon) Norris in Jamestown, North Dakota. Greta grew up in Jamestown and attended Jamestown College for 4 years, earning a teaching degree. She was teaching in Roundup when she met James "Ken" Ross.
On February 1st, 1958, Ken and Greta were united in marriage in Roundup, Montana.
The newlyweds made Roundup their home until moving to Lewistown in 1960.
When the couple was blessed with their three sons, Greta took a break from teaching to stay home. She resumed work as a substitute teacher in the late 1960s. Early in the 1980s, she became a Deputy Clerk of Court, a few years later she was elected as Clerk of Court, and she held that position for 12 years. Greta was also a long-time member of the Marie Chapter of Eastern Star. Upon retirement, Ken and Greta moved to their ranch near Judith Gap, where they lived until 2012, when Ken entered the nursing home. They enjoyed a total of 57 wonderful years together until James passed away in 2015. Greta moved to Billings after her husband's death and then to Harlowton in December 2025.
