Gretchen Redmond Obituary

Gretchen Armstrong Redmond, 93, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away Monday, December 29, 2025 at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury. She was born October 14, 1932, in Winchester, the daughter of the late Frank Armstrong Jr. and Margaret Tweltridge Armstrong. Gretchen graduated from Handley High School and Sweet Briar College. In September 1957 she married Daniel Martin Redmond, who predeceased her in June 2000. She worked for US News and World Report in HR, and as a Program Assistant for the National Academy of Science. While living in Arlington, VA, she was involved in many volunteer and service activities, including past president of the Service League of Northen Virginia (now Junior League of Northern Virginia), Commonwealth Circle, Neighbors Club and Great Decisions. Gretchen returned to Winchester in 2017. She was preceded in death by sister, JoAnne Armstrong-Jones, and brothers Frank Armstrong III and William T. Armstrong Sr. She is survived by daughter Elizabeth Redmond VanWinkle (Richard) of Winchester, VA and son Daniel Fitzgerald Redmond (Lisa) of Annapolis, MD, along with grandchildren Ryan Redmond, Patrick Redmond and Meagan Redmond. Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Winchester, VA at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, Christ Episcopal Church, or Blue Ridge Care.
