Guadalupe "Lupe" Hernandez, age 78, passed away on January 3, 2026. Lupe was born on July 16, 1947, to Alberto and Maria Hernandez. Lupe attended Zavala Elementary School, Ella Barnes Jr. High School and Roy Miller High School. Lupe left high school in the 11th grade to join the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Era.
Lupe enjoyed playing pool, softball, visiting Major League Ball Parks, and coaching numerous Little League, Pony League, and Connie Mack Baseball Teams. He was a talented artist and welder. He enjoyed painting art and drawing. He used his welding talents by helping friends with their welding needs. When Lupe became a grandfather, in 2004, he enjoyed using his creative and artistic talents helping his grandchildren with numerous school projects.
If you knew Mr. Hernandez, his grandkids were his pride and joy and was always present at their functions. He was a great provider, a great Dad and the best Grandpa. He mentored so many baseball players with passion for the game and love for the boys. His love for the kids he mentored on and off the baseball field shined through in everything he did.
Lupe is preceded in death by his parents, Alberto Hernandez and Maria Hernandez, his sisters, Rosa "Rosie" Hernandez, Diana Chapa and Elisa "Licha" Morin, his brothers, Alberto Hernandez, Jr., and Juan "Johnny" Hernandez, his brothers-in-law, Emilio "Quate" Ruiz, Carlos Chapa and Arturo Ruiz.
Lupe is survived by his wife, Aida "Ida" Hernandez, sons, Michael (Dina) Hernandez and Marcus (Jesenia) Hernandez, grandchildren, Derek Hernandez, Damon Hernandez, Darian Hernandez, Gia Hernandez and Elias Sierra, brothers and sisters, Celestino (Maria) Hernandez, Mary (Mere) Hernandez, Esperanza (Emilio) Ruiz and Janie (Arturo) Ruiz, his sister-in-law, Mary Hernandez, brother-in-law, Fermin Morin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that same evening at Corpus Christi Funeral Home, 2409 Baldwin Blvd.,
Corpus Christi, TX., 78405. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 540 Hiawatha St.,
Corpus Christi, TX., 78405. Interment to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH37 Access Rd.,
