It´s hard to imagine a more caring and thoughtful individual. Gunars was always so giving and shared his astute understanding and experience openly when it came to building design and construction. His quiet voice, his warm smile and his gentle character were inviting, genuine and ever present. He was the ultimate mentor who cared, educated, encouraged and motivated a generation of young design professionals here in North Carolina.
The architectural community will surely miss you Gunars.

I met Gunar when starting work at Odell in 1987. He was wonderful with advice on construction details and project management. His review of construction documents quality was invaluable and saved us a lot of headaches during the building process. I remember his dance passion seeing him in an exhibition dance for the Charlotte MS Society ball.
I did not know about his many other talents and was glad to see the list in his obituary. It was also gratifying to see the long list of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A great testimony of this wonderful accomplished architect, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
