August “Gus” Beckwith, age 23, entered his eternal rest unexpectedly on September 29, 2023 in Taos, NM. Gus was born on December 2, 1999, in Taos, NM to Gene Beckwith and Karen Todd.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather Richard Todd and Uncle Emmett Barton.
Many will remember Gus as a child growing up in his Mother’s café, waiting tables, seating guests, and occasionally pulling up a chair to your table to join. He was also frequently found in his Father’s shop on top of a few vintage motorcycles, dreaming of a swift ride around the town. Gus carried his passion for motorcycles throughout his life, as he would fly through Taos on his beloved Harley Davidson in his free time.
Gus attended the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and later graduated from Taos High School in 2018. Gus led an honorable life. He enlisted in the United States National Guard on May 5, 2017, as a Specialist, training as a Medic and attaining the rank of Sergeant. He deployed to Djibouti, Africa in November 2019 and returned home in May of 2020. Upon his return, Gus was elected to the Taos Fire Department where he proudly served his community.
He married the love of his life, Amanda Beckwith, on September 14, 2019. He and Amanda raised their pride and joy Thomas Jameson. Gus and Amanda spent the last four years loving one and other along with their beautiful son, Thomas. He is survived by his brother Emmett, Father Gene, Mother Karen, in-laws Ralph and Karen Arellano, Brother-in-law Santiago (Cynthia), Nephew Santiago Jr., grandparents, family, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Taos Center for the Arts, 133 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, Taos, NM 87571, 10:00am. Interment will follow at 2:00pm at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, 34 Country Club Rd, Angel Fire, NM 87710.
Pallbearers will be Angel Apodaca, Rick Lucero, Domenic Thornock, Ive Shelton, Russell Payton, David Halder and honorary pallbearer, Thomas Jameson “Little Bear” Beckwith.
